My pride postings seem to be popular, so let me add one more.
Because of all the volunteering I did, I didn’t do as many photos this year as I normally do. I total a skant 101, I think. That’s low for me. I wanted to share a few images that you don’t always get to see from Gay Pride Parades and Festivals.
I find that many people think of gay pride as a white male event, with lots of dresses and Big Gestures(tm) and lots of “Gurrrrrrrrrrrrl” heard. Take a look at this photo:
There are more people out there than just white folk. Not that there’s anything wrong with being flamboyant or white … or both! It’s important that we recognize the diversity in the community, so that others can see it as well.
The Fire Department marched behind my contigent:
The person second from the left? That’s the Commisioner … alllll the top brass are there, as far as I could tell. Friendly, friendly people, I must say.
Did you know beautiful, non-lesbian women show up for Pride? This is Claire, whom I adore:
Yes, that’s me on the right … she’s such a love. I’m so lucky to have her as a friend.
Finally, I was a Contingent Monitor for the SF Zen Center during the Parade. This was our float:
That’s the Abbess seated in the Center. I’ve been told by one person that we were a “moment of calm in the sea of insanity” that was the Pride Parade. That felt good, and looking at this photo, I can see why people could feel that way.
That’s it for today folks … oh, and Sean called last night from Australia, for those who have been following along. :{)
